Dan’s new Furnace comments
Here is my furnace for smelting to lead, and cupelling. Unlike the electric one, it will go to 2100 degrees in about five minutes, instead of taking two hours to go to 1750. It is a stainless steel beer keg, lined with refractory brick, and furnace cement. The burner is a weed burner that a friend put a 90 degree bend into. The outside of the keg stays cool to the touch. When I fire it up, it sounds like a jet engine. With this furnace I can fire some preliminary assays for myself, instead of paying $30.00-$70.00 each. I can also smelt to lead. It is also a lot of fun to run. We sort of made this up as we went along, and I am going to make the lid fit a little better.
Take care all, Dan.
